Every year on International Women’s Day, the world pauses to recognize the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women in every sphere of life. From boardrooms to classrooms, laboratories to homes, women continue to shape societies, economies, and families in ways that are both visible and often quietly profound.
When we speak about women in the workforce, the conversation usually centers on leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional success. These achievements deserve recognition. Women have broken barriers, challenged long-standing norms, and proven time and again that talent, determination, and intelligence know no gender. Across industries, women continue to lead teams, build companies, advance science, teach future generations, and drive meaningful change.
Yet, the story of women’s contribution cannot be told fully by looking only at professional titles or promotions. Equally important are the countless women who carry the responsibility of building families while pursuing careers, often balancing both with incredible dedication. Their work does not always appear in performance reviews or annual reports, but its impact is immeasurable.
Many women step away from the workforce at different stages of their lives—to raise children, care for family members, or support the evolving needs of their households. These career pauses are not signs of lost ambition or diminished capability. They are chapters in a life filled with responsibility, empathy, and commitment. A career gap should never be seen as a weakness. On the contrary, it often reflects strength, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize what matters most at a given moment in life.
Skills, intelligence, and potential do not disappear because someone took time to nurture a family. The experiences gained through caregiving, household leadership, and emotional support often build resilience, problem-solving abilities, and leadership skills that are just as valuable in professional environments.
On this International Women’s Day, I find myself reflecting on two women who embody this strength in my own life: my mother and my wife.
My mother has been one of the greatest influences in shaping who I am today. Her sacrifices, quiet determination, and unwavering belief in the importance of education and hard work laid the foundation for my dreams. Like many mothers, she balanced responsibilities that often went unnoticed, yet every effort she made created opportunities for the next generation. Her resilience and strength continue to inspire me.
My wife, too, represents the powerful yet often understated role women play in the journey of success. Behind every milestone I achieve, there is her encouragement, patience, and belief in my abilities. She has supported my ambitions even when it required her to pause or reshape her own path. That kind of partnership is not simply support—it is a shared investment in a family’s future.
Their stories are not unique. Across the world, millions of women stand behind and beside their families, enabling dreams to grow while quietly setting aside many of their own. Recognizing this does not diminish their ambitions—it highlights the depth of their strength.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day in 2026, it is important to broaden the definition of success. A woman’s worth cannot be measured solely by uninterrupted career timelines or corporate titles. Success also lives in the homes where values are taught, in the sacrifices made for loved ones, and in the strength it takes to rebuild careers after life’s pauses.
Organizations, communities, and societies must recognize that career gaps are part of real human lives. Instead of treating them as setbacks, we should see them as experiences that enrich perspectives and strengthen capabilities.
True progress lies in creating environments where women are supported whether they choose to lead companies, raise families, do both, or move between these roles throughout their lives. The goal should never be to force women into a single definition of success, but to respect and value every path they choose.
Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements of women everywhere—but we also acknowledge the sacrifices, resilience, and quiet strength that often remain unseen. To my mother, my wife, and countless women like them: your contributions shape dreams, build families, and strengthen the world in ways that cannot always be measured, but are deeply felt every single day.
